Correct scheme of pruning roses

Virtually no gardener, who in the garden grows only one rose bush. But how to properly cut roses, for him is often an insoluble problem. In principle, there is nothing super complicated and mysterious here. So what is the scheme of pruning roses?

Every year on the plants of roses there are strong stems that grow from the base of the bush. The more such stems, the less on the plant side branches are formed. The task of any trim is to stimulate the appearance of new healthy growths and appearance on the rose, optimally for the plant quantity, flowers.

Pruning roses – an uncomplicated action that is aimed at supporting the health of the rose, its free flowering and determining the size of the bush. Several types of pruning of plants are required. Why? – you ask. We answer. The sizes of rose bushes range from miniature ones, only 0-25 m high, to powerful climbing plants that can grow to the height of the third floor.

Several common cropping options are applied to all groups of roses. Many roses are planted on a stock, selected from wild rose hips. This dog rose can start a wild shoot and it is necessary to cut it constantly. Track where the root shoot escapes from, and cut it to the bottom. Never trim such growths at the soil level – then you only stimulate the appearance of new wild shoots. In this case, you save the species rose. Otherwise, over time, the varietal rose will turn into wildlife.

Standard roses can also show shoots on the stem, below the point of incubation. Like the radical, they must be cut with a sharp knife.

Pruning should always be carried out as close as possible to the growth bud.

  1. The tool you use when pruning roses must be very sharp. A ragged cut from blunt instruments can lead to the death of a branch. The correct cut on the branch should be no more than 0.5 cm from the kidney and have a slight inclination from it. If you make a cut higher, then the stump will wither away, and if lower – you can damage the kidney or contribute to getting the infection into the plant through it. Also, if the cut is too close, the kidney may rot.
  2. Trim the branches to a healthy white plant tissue.
  3. You need to trim it so that the kidney above which the cut is made is from the outside of the branch. Roses with drooping branches are sometimes sometimes cut so that the kidney is located on the inside of the stem. This will give an opportunity to get shoots with vertical growth.
  4. At roses with powerful growth, often after trimming from one kidney begin to grow 2 or 3 shoots. For a healthy growth of the future branch, we must leave only one escape.
  5. Dead and sick stems, weak and thin growths must be cut to healthy tissue.
  6. Maintain a sufficient interval between the stems to ensure the breathability of the crown and the access of light to the leaves. This will help significantly reduce the plant’s predilection for disease.
  7. Be sure to burn the removed parts of plants.

If you do not know which group of roses your plant belongs to, cut it according to general rules. And the next year, by the nature of flowering, you determine which group it belongs to, and carry out the appropriate pruning. Here’s a whole, the scheme of pruning roses.
