COMPANION PLANTS FOR RHODODENDRONS AND AZALEA

Azaleas and rhododendrons make the site design very beautiful. They are very loved by gardeners because of their flowering. But in order to successfully grow them, you should follow certain rules. Sometimes, in fact, not everyone can handle this. One such rule is the right companions for azaleas and rhododendrons. 

HOW TO CHOOSE NEIGHBORING PLANTS FOR AZALEAS AND RHODODENDRONS

Light and appropriate soil is the key that helps to choose neighboring plants for azaleas and rhododendrons. They grow in acidic soils and the gardener needs to look for flowers and shrubs that also grow and develop well in such soils. The acidity of the soil, the pH in which these beautiful plants prefer to grow, ranges between 4.5 – 6.  

Both of these shrubs love the scattered sunlight and afternoon shade. Such a desirable refuge they create oaks and conifers, pines, for example. These are some of the ideal companions for azaleas and rhododendrons. Other nearby neighbors plants may be those that also grow well in partial shade.

complement the flowering of azaleas and rhododendrons, such flowering plants as: alliums, astilbe, dicentres, aquilegia, daffodils, serpentines, muscari, meconopsis, primrose, Siberian irises. If you want to plant decorative foliage plants nearby, then use fern hosts. Of the shrub plants with rhododendrons and azaleas, blueberries, cranberries, heather, hydrangea, Japanese pyrrhic, Korean barberry, magonia, broad-leaved calcium, Canadian viburnum, hollow magonia, alder cage, lying gaulteria, and witch hazel are excellently adjacent. 

When choosing plants neighbors for rhododendrons and azaleas, be sure to remember the acidity of the soil. There are many plants that flourish in partial shade, but not all of them grow well in acidic ground. Before you buy seeds or seedlings, be sure to find out what soil composition the plant prefers. Still worth paying attention to the area in which the plant grows. Its survival depends on it. Only after that you can be sure that the proximity to rhododendrons and azaleas will be successful.
